What you need to know. We are seeking Catering Officer for our healthcare client. To provide an efficient, quality Catering Service to both patients and staff of RHM, complying with all Food Hygiene Regulations. To assist the Catering Management Team in the day to day provision of services. The Catering Department operates a Cook Chill System and provides a food production service to both patients and staff of RHM, in compliance with all Food Hygiene Regulations/HACCP. The Catering Officer will report to the General Service Manager for the efficient performance of all duties. This is a temporary job. Responsibilities. Quality of Catering – Operations & Productivity. The Catering Officer will: Be responsible for requisitioning of foodstuffs and materials for the catering service. Provide feedback in relation to purchase specifications when necessary for procurement. Assist in the preparation and service of food and cleaning as may be necessary in critical areas during periods of staff shortages and emergencies. Check the loading of ready to eat food for transport for lunch and tea. Organise and maintain the food sampling system in conjunction with the chefs on duty. Implement the HACCP system in relation to the food delivery and processing schedules, the temperature maintenance of same and the cold rooms. Implement efficient and effective work methods and systems and identify and agree production schedules which will facilitate the achievement of high levels of productivity. Supervision of Plating of meals in temperature-controlled rooms. Ensure standards of service are maintained in the plating of meals and setting trays. Monitor food presentation during the plating of meals. Ensure Catering Attendants adhere to proper work practices in relation to food handling and food safety. Ensure Catering Attendants wear the correct PPE and comply to personal hygiene practices. Supervision of and responsible for Main wash up Area. Deal with Call Backs (late meal orders. Check that all areas are kept clean and in hygienic condition. Temperature monitoring and recording in accordance with the HACCP guidelines. Ensure principles of HACCP are maintained and checked. Completion of HACCP Charts. Maintain a high standard of Hygiene in the workplace. Ensure efficient and economical use of both materials and equipment. Report broken or faulty equipment. Report accidents, fire, damage to equipment. Be available for training when required. Comply with Health and Safety Regulations. Be aware of patient complaint procedures and comply with same. Responsible for ensuring special dietary requests from Dieticians and patients are met. Ensure Catering Attendants comply with proper work practices in the Plating Belt/Trolley Bay/Wash-up Area. Compliance with Food Hygiene Regulations. Hygiene. The Catering Officer will: Maintain and monitor HACCP systems and ensure safe working practices are followed in compliance with the food hygiene regulations. Maintain the required standards of operational hygiene within the kitchen at all times ensuring that agreed operational specifications and cleaning schedules are adhered to. Ensure that correct waste control and disposal measures are implemented. Health and Safety. The Catering Officer will: Be fully conversant with the Health and Safety at Work Act, 1989 and ensure that staff are fully aware of their responsibility under the law and are compliant with all safety regulations and attend fire lectures periodically. Ensure that adequate safety measures are in operation and that equipment and appliances are in good condition. Report unsafe conditions. Work in a safe manner with due care and attention. Comply with department procedures with regard to the assessment, recommendation and/or manufacturing of all assistive devices. Ensure that fire prevention and precautionary methods are observed and adhered to at all times. Ensure the security of food stocks at all times. Have a working knowledge of the Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA) Standards as they apply to the role for example, Standards for Healthcare, National Standards for the Prevention and Control of Healthcare Associated Infections, Hygiene Standards etc. and comply with associated HSE protocols for implementing and maintaining these standards as appropriate to the role. Support, promote and actively participate in sustainable energy, water and waste initiatives to create a more sustainable, low carbon and efficient health. Supervision. The Catering Officer will: Organise and supervise catering staff including staff work schedules, duty assignments and areas of work to ensure adequate service for all areas under remit. Training. The Catering Officer will: Be available for further training if required. Requirements. Have obtained a qualification in catering production and/or service [equivalent to Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQI) Level 5] And / Or. Have at least three years satisfactory experience in cooking and/or service for an establishment catering for a large number of people.
